Cross-Country Athletes and Families,

Like so many things right now, this summer’s cross-country training will be different than past years.  First and foremost, we want to be able to accurately communicate with you electronically because there are limitations on face-to-face contact, and we’ll be operating under somewhat fluid procedures.  Therefore, we are asking that all new and returning athletes who are considering summer training and/or being on the team this fall, fill out the Registration Form at the link below.

Due to GHSA and district regulations, summer training in-person with coaches would have to be entirely on-campus at least through the month of June and we would be restricted to groups of 20 (including coaches) whose composition cannot change throughout the duration of summer.  In order to comply with these restrictions, we would have to exclude runners, prevent natural training groups from forming, and necessitate athletes run on the same courses, most of which would be hard-surfaces, repeatedly.  So, instead, we are opting for teamwide virtual training through at least July 5th.  This will allow all athletes, including rising 9th graders and other new athletes to participate in equitable training, as well as allow athletes to train with who they feel comfortable and safe training with, and allow athletes to train at more exciting venues than campus, including locations with softer surfaces and terrain more conducive to cross-country training. 

We will post weekly workouts on this website, which will include not only a description of each day’s workouts, but also a suggested time and location for athletes who want to meet up and train together.  We will also conduct web-based training meetings during this time and collect athletes’ training data and use that to shape further workouts. 

We are hopeful about the fall season, but neither the state (GHSA), nor Fulton County have made a decision regarding fall athletics.  As we receive updates, we’ll be sure to send them out to you.  Like all years, summer training is recommended, but not required in order to participate in the fall season; the training is open to all rising 9th to 12th graders, new to the team or returning; and, all new athletes must create a DragonFly account, while all returning athletes must update their DragonFly account. 

Information on setting up your DragonFly account can be found in the PDF below.  Likewise, a fillable PDF of the required physical form is below.  Please note this is a new physical form and the only form that will be accepted for physicals.  You will take photos of these completed and signed physicals and add them to your DragonFly account.   All new athletes, including rising 9th graders, must get a new physical and update it to their DragonFly accounts before participating in any in-person workouts.  All physicals must be completed within the last 365 days, with one small exception provided by the GHSA: if a returning athlete had a physical posted to their DrafonFly account that was still valid on  April 30th (meaning the physical was done sometime after April 30th, 2019), they do not need to get a new physical until July 27th.

Here is a bio about our speaker Kendra Houghton:

Kendra Houghton received her Bachelor of Science in Education, Health & Physical Education, and her Masters of Education, Health Promotion & Behavior from the University of Georgia.  She is a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES).  She has 12 years of experience in work site health promotion, through which she has served as a corporate health coach for organizations all over the state of Georgia, run her own program development and coaching/training business, and for the last eight years served as Wellness Coordinator for the Unified Government of Athens-Clarke County and it's 2000+ population of employees and retirees.  In addition to her work site wellness career, Kendra is a certified spin instructor, personal trains and health coaches throughout the Athens community.


Athletes: If you are going to be absent from any part of a practice or meet for any reason, you need to fill out and submit the electronic form HERE.  Submit it 48 hours+ prior for absences from practice and 5 days prior for absences from meets.  Filling out this form does not necessarily mean your absence will be considered approved or excused by the coaching staff.
